A local leader in the fight against cancer has died.

Michael Antcliffe, who wrote a book about his fight with the disease, and held several fundraisers to help researchers stop it in its tracks, passed away on Saturday. His “I owe Michael Antcliffe $10” campaign had raised more than $13,000 for the Northern Cancer Fund.

“It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of our local warrior, Michael Antcliffe. Through his trying cancer journey, Michael found courage, strength, and hope to battle his illness. He shared with us all his personal experiences, which were both enlightening and inspiring.

“He sought the positive in all situations and reminded us of the importance to hug one another,” a Facebook post states.

Antcliffe led the Relay for Life earlier this year. He was diagnosed with malignant melanoma more than four years ago. His book, You’ll Never Guess Who’s Dying of Cancer, launched in April.
