THUNDER BAY - For the second straight year, the C.L.E. fairgrounds will play host to the Motorsports Extravaganza, which Kevin Merkley says will be the “bigger and better” than last year.

There’s plenty of reasons why.

Two additional live bands, a dealer’s row, an extra day of turn burn out contests and more demonstrations, according to Merkley, co-ordinator of the show’s planning committee.

The show, which will begin on August 19 and end the following day, will give an opportunity for the car community of Thunder Bay to put their rides on display.

“We’re expecting 300 people,” Merkley said. “The first registrant came from Minneapolis. Last year we had an award winner from Chicago. So the show has a lot of outreach.”

Car enthusiasts aren’t just coming out to check out the rides, but to try to win one of 24 different awards which will be handed out at the two-day event.

The most coveted, of course, is the best-in-show prize.

“This year it will be decided by a guest who will walk the show and pick their favourite out of all the vehicles.”

Merkley said the Coliseum building at the CLE will feature special displays for the more expensive cars, and historical displays.

“It’s a good feeling, and it’s a big feeling to put on a show like this,” he said. “It’s a lot of work. It just takes people, and it takes a vision. We have both.”

Admission for the event is just $2, and will be available on site starting Aug. 19 at 10 a.m.
