THUNDER BAY — Former Thunder Bay Mayor Bill Mauro has landed a new job in the private sector.

Mauro now works for Pathway Group, a government relations and public affairs firm with offices in Toronto, Ottawa and Hamilton.

The veteran provincial and municipal politician announced in June that he would not seek re-election.

His last day at city hall was Oct. 3, and he started with Pathway the next day.

"After 25 years of public service, I am excited by this opportunity to work with Pathway Group," Mauro said in a statement Wednesday.

"I look forward to renewing previous relationships and establishing new connections to help individuals and organizations achieve their goals."

During his tenure at Queen's Park as MPP for Thunder Bay-Atikokan – from 2003 to 2018 – Mauro held numerous portfolios under the McGuinty and Wynne Liberal governments, including Municipal Affairs & Housing, Natural Resources & Forestry, and Northern Development & Mines.

Pathway president Peter Curtis said, "With over two decades of experience, Bill's political leadership credentials will enhance our firm's ability to deliver integrated strategy and execution across a range of sectors."

Mauro will be working out of Thunder Bay.

In an interview, he said he's very comfortable moving to Pathway because one of the company's partners is a longtime colleague.

He said he expects to work with a wide range of clients needing guidance for their approaches to government on a variety of issues.

"Any organizations, businesses, non-profits, anybody who interface generally with senior orders of government. [But] not just provincial or federal.  From time to time there may be interface with municipal government as well."
