As Prince Arthur’s Landing Marina gets set to open on Saturday, June 12, the City of Thunder Bay is predicting a two-week delay in water and electrical hook-up as well as possible construction related interruptions throughout the summer.
The Marina will be fully serviced by June 29.
The 2010 Docking Agreements sent out in February alerted boaters that there was potential for delays in water and electrical hook-up and for service interruptions throughout the season. The City had anticipated full service by June 12; but upgrades to the services require more time.
"We will now be providing boaters with a full range of power up to 50 amps by the end of June," said Paul Fayrick, Manager of Parks. "Going to full service takes more time, hence the delay."
Boaters faced fees that were reduced by 25 per cent for the 2010 season and prorated based on the shortened season – 96 days versus the regular 154 days.
All boat owners who chose not to dock their boat at the Marina in 2010 will receive a free season of boating in 2011, as well as having their 2010 dock assignment maintained.
The City is reminding citizens that the boat launch facilities and associated parking lot at Marina Park are closed to the general public. The launches will only be accessible by marina contract holders at the beginning and end of the season.
