Police are searching Bombardier for a bomb and employees have been evacuated following a phone call Friday afternoon.
Bombardier security received a call just after noon Friday from someone saying there was a bomb in the plant’s main building.

More than 900 employees were evacuated and driven to the nearby AbitibiBowater plant to wait while Thunder Bay Police Service and the OPP officers search the building.

“All that we know at this time is that a call was received by Bombardier security,” said Thunder Bay Police Service spokeswoman Julie Tilbury.

“The building is currently being searched and we’re doing an assessment as to what the level of threat is. It’s going to be an ongoing process we’re unsure of how long this is going to take.”

Some employees were allowed back around 2 p.m. in areas deemed safe by police to collect their belongings.

Thunder Bay Transit service was suspended as buses were rerouted to Bombardier to get employees to AbitibiBowater.
