KENORA, Ont. -- It's only one game, but Trevor Bonot is showing he may be the team to beat in Kenora.

The Thunder Bay rink, which includes lead Kurtis Byrd, second Jordan Potts and third Mike McCarville, advanced to the 1-2 Page Playoff, downing 11-time Northern Ontario Curling champion Brad Jacobs 7-1 on Friday afternoon.

It was the third straight win for Bonot, seeking his first Brier appearance. Jacobs, who has represented Northern Ontario 12 times in the past 13 years at the Brier, will play in the B-side final of the 11-team, triple knockout tournament against Sandy MacEwan.

The two teams shook hands after eight, Bonot picking up steals, totalling four points, in the sixth, seventh and eighth ends at the Kenora Recreation Centre.

Jacobs had initially planned to scale back from competitive curling this year, his former Sault Ste. Marie team having split up in the offseason. But he was coaxed to compete again by Little Current, Ont.'s Jordan Chandler and he joined the team, alongside Kyle Chandler and Jordan Broad, for another shot at the Brier.
