THUNDER BAY – A pair of familiar faces will be back in the lineup when the Thunder Bay Border Cats kick off the 2024 campaign later this month.

The Northwoods League team on Thursday announced the return of pitcher Griffin Catto and outfielder Zane Skansi.

Catto, a sophomore at Jefferson College in Missouri, made 13 appearances with the Cats in 2023, going 2-1 with 15 strikeouts over 20.2 innings of work.

Skansi, a teammate of fellow Border Cat Jack Pineau at Nebraska’s Creighton University, hit .303 with two home runs, three doubles and 16 RBI last summer.

The team also announced the return of pitcher Shane Kearby and outfielder Lucas Terilli, who made brief appearances with the team last year.

Kearby, a southpaw from the University of Missouri-St. Louis, pitched in three games for the Cats in 2023, going 0-1 with a 4.50 earned run average.

Terrilli, who plays at Eastern New Mexico University, got into six games with Thunder Bay last year and hit .296 with two RBI.

The Border Cats also announced the signing of catcher Jackson Cooke, infielders Kyle Morrison and Ty Brooks and pitchers Trent Roehler and Andrew Hardin.

The Cats are scheduled to open the regular season on May 27 on the road against the Rochester Honkers and their home opener is May 31 at Port Arthur Stadium, with the Minnesota Mud Puppies providing the opposition.

Fireworks will be held following the home opener.
