THUNDER BAY – Peter Fusek hit a two-run triple in the 10th to deliver an extra-inning win for the Thunder Bay Border Cats.
It capped a comeback effort for the Cats in the first game of a brief two-game road trip against the St. Cloud Rox, Thunder Bay downing their hosts 8-6 to improve to 5-6 on the season.
The Border Cats trailed 4-1 after seven innings, but erupted for four runs to take a 5-4 lead, Reliever Alex Ramos took over on the mound for St. Cloud to start the eighth, but only managed to record one out, walking two batter and hitting Cole Ketzner to load the bases.
Jake Burcham took over and immediately surrendered a two-RBI single to Tyler Kehoe, who later scored on a Brayden Kuriger single that also plated Ketzner.
The Rox evened the score 5-5in the bottom of the eighth, T.J. Williams coming home on a Tanner Knowles single to right.
Evans Hendricks got the start for Thunder Bay and he gave up four runs on three hits and four walks, leaving with one out in the fifth.
Relievers Kyle Gearding, Barron Sawyer, Billy Humphrey and Griffin Catto combined to allow just two more runs on five hits the rest of the way. Humphrey (1-0), earned the win, while Brandon Jaenke, who pitched the 10th, took the loss.
Thunder Bay and St. Cloud meet again on Sunday, then bring the action to Thunder Bay for games on Monday night and Tuesday morning.
