Border Cats home opener slated for May 28

The Rochester Honkers will help the Cats kick off the home portion of their schedule with a four-game set.

THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay Border Cats will open their home schedule on May 28.

The Northwoods League team, who start the 2025 campaign on the road on May 26 against the Eau Claire Express, will welcome the Rochester Honkers to Port Arthur Stadium two nights later to open their 20th season.

New manager Joe Ellison will be at the helm.

The 2025 schedule includes school-day games on June 4 against Duluth, and June 17 against the LaCrosse Loggers.

The Cats will also host heir annual Canada Day game on July 1 against the Waterloo Bucks.

The team will host three fireworks games, on Friday, May 30, Monday, June 30 and Thursday, Aug. 7, following their final regular-season game against their cross-border rivals, the Duluth Huskies.

The Northwoods League playoffs are scheduled to begin on Aug. 10.

The Border Cats finished 35-34 last season, the third-best record in the Great Plains East Division, finishing three games behind Duluth and two behind Waterloo.
