THUNDER BAY — The Thunder Bay Border Cats made their first Northwoods League contest since 2019 count.
The Border Cats scored a dominant 12-0 road win in their season opener against the Mankato MoonDogs on Monday night.
Thunder Bay wasted little time getting on the board, plating a trio of runs in the top of the first inning. The visitors expanded the lead with another run in the fourth, followed by a pair in the sixth. The contest was put firmly out of reach with a five-run ninth inning.
The Border Cats were aided by five Mankato errors.
Starting pitcher Caden Fiveash went five scoreless innings to pick up the win, only allowing one hit while racking up seven strikeouts.
The Border Cats will take on Mankato again on Tuesday. The team will return to Thunder Bay for their home opener on June 6.
