THUNDER BAY – The District of Thunder Bay Social Services Administration Board will see new leadership with new appointments for both chair and vice-chair for 2024.

Hamilton is taking over the role from Ken Boshcoff and has been on the Board of Directors since 2019. Throughout his time on the board, Hamilton has seen the organization evolve and grow with the needs of the community.

“This board has been really fun to work on,” he said. “We get to interact with members of councils and mayors all across the district.”

He said that it's going to be an exciting time with him as chair. There are a number of programs and services he plans on putting into place, and he hopes for funding continuity for their partners.

Hamilton said one of the big things he hopes to bring to the board is a strong advocacy component.

“You know, I was part of the delegation that went to the Association of Municipalities of Ontario. When we met with ministers, I was actually able to present a case to several of them on a variety of issues,” he said.

“And I would like to be doing that at Rural Ontario Municipal Association again. In a week we’re going to be down in ROMA presenting how we feel the government needs to provide more assistance for us here in the north.”

Along with Hamilton, TBDSSAB has also appointed a new vice-chair, Jim Moffat, who has represented Manitouwadge on the board since 2023.

Moffat said that he’s looking forward to working alongside Hamilton and the rest of the board.

“It was an honour to be nominated and then voted in as the vice-chair,” he said. "I’ll be working closely with Brian Hamilton as the new chair and I think we’re going to make a good team to head up the committee.”

The first meeting of the Thunder Bay District Social Services Administration Board in the new year is scheduled for Jan. 18 at the TBDSSAB headquarters.
