Burgess blanks Weiss in 2020 finale

Win moves veteran skip into sole possession of second place in the Tbaytel Major League of Curling standings at the Christmas break.

THUNDER BAY -- Bryan Burgess fired a rare curling shutout on Wednesday night.

The veteran skip opened with four in the first end, stole a pair in the second and singles in the third and fourth ends and downed Gary Weiss 8-0 in Tbaytbel Major League of Curling play at Port Arthur Curling Club.

The two teams shook hands after the fourth end Burgess improving to 6-2, alone in second. Weiss slipped below .500 to 4-5. 

In other play, Dylan Johnston (7-2) took sole possession of top spot, knocking off Jonathan Vellinga 7-4. while Krista McCarville (6-3) lost a second straight match, falling 6-2 to Trevor Bonot (6-3).

In the only other match of the night, in a battle between a pair of wily veterans, Frank Morissette (5-3) prevailed, beating Al Hackner (5-4) with a shot to the button after the the two teams were tied 7-7 through eight ends to earn an 8-7 win.
