OTTAWA – Ally Burke’s strong start to the season continued on Friday night, but her 24-point night wasn’t quite enough to push the Lakehead Thunderwolves past the Ottawa Gee Gees.

The Thunderwolves (2-3), who fell 70-62 on the road, were tied 28-28 at the half. But the Gee Gees, a team that’s been nationally  ranked in recent years, outscored Lakehead 25-13 coming out of the break, more than enough to secure the win.

Rookie Kelly-Ann Coulombe had nine points and a dozen rebounds, and Kirpa Brar came off the bench to score eight points.

Natsuki Szczokin had 21 to lead Ottawa (3-1) to the win, their third straight to open the season.

The Thunderolves will stick around the national capital region on Saturday to take on No. 1 Carleton.
