Bus driver in fatal collision involving 10-year-old boy acquitted

The driver of the bus had been charged with careless driving causing death.

THUNDER BAY – The driver of the school bus involved in the collision that claimed the life of a 10-year-old boy in 2023 has been acquitted.

Thunder Bay police responded to a report a school bus had hit a cyclist on the crosswalk on the corner of Clarkson Street and Red River Road in May 2023.

Riker Mckelvey died as a result of his injuries sustained in the collision.

The driver of the bus had been charged with careless driving causing death.

A trial was held Oct. 21 to 24 at the Thunder Bay Courthouse and on Thursday, the driver was found not guilty.
