THUNDER BAY — The current spell of frigid weather is making for some uncomfortable conditions for passengers waiting to catch a bus at the waterfront terminal.

The heating system in the terminal remains shut down because of mechanical issues.

A Thunder Bay Transit spokesperson said the problem began in late 2023, and repairs have been delayed by a difficulty getting parts.

Supplemental electrical heaters have been brought in, but the extreme cold has made it challenging for these heaters to maintain the comfortable temperature that's usually provided by the main heating system.

Repairs are in the hands of the City of Thunder Bay's facilities services group, which oversees all civic building infrastructure.

The spokesperson said parts are now en route, and the city hopes to have repairs completed by next week.
