THUNDER BAY – Cambrian Players launched its 75th season with the third-annual Community Open House on Wednesday.

Don McMahon, event coordinator, said they announced the full season at the open house.

“We have some special events that we've also planned for this year to celebrate our 75th season,” he said.

Cambrian Players is Northwestern Ontario's longest-running community theatre group.

“We want to celebrate our history. We also want to just share some information about our upcoming season.

“It's going to be a really exciting year. We're really looking forward to having people come out and celebrate with us. We have some auditions coming up for our fall production ‘Of Marriage Minded Misses,’” he said.

Cambrian Players will have local actors performing three different shows in the 2024-2025 season.

Julie MacCoy is directing the first play of the season, ‘Of Marriage Minded Misses.’

“I'm looking forward to how each (play) is going to bring something different to the Cambrian stage.

“We've got a timeless classic comedy written by a local playwright, which is a world premiere and the first show of the season. And then we have a really modern, witty play coming up, ‘Home, I'm Darling’, and then we’re ending with a musical which is going to be great, ‘A Year With Frog and Toad.’

“I think they're all going to be special,” she said.

This is MacCoy’s 20th year being involved with Cambrian.

“I started 20 years ago backstage helping out and I ended up being on stage. I've done behind the stage work, and now I'm directing. This will be my third full-length production directing with Cambrian.”

Cambrian Players will hold auditions for its first show of the season from Sept. 5 to 7.

“’Of Marriage Minded Misses’ is written by local playwright Amanda Doig. It is a world premiere that we're doing. We’re really excited to be doing it here at Cambrian and I’m really excited to be directing it.

“We are looking for anybody who wants to come try out acting. Maybe you’ve done it before or haven't done it in a while or you do it all the time.”

Cambrian Players encourages anyone to try out acting with an audition.

Visit the Cambrian Players website or social media to sign up to audition.
