Cambrian Players hopes to make the theatre more accessible for all

Cambrian Players is working towards raising $150,000 to install an access lift and a main floor washroom to its theatre space.

THUNDER BAY — A community theatre group is looking to raise money to make its space more accessible and inclusive.

Cambrian Players is working towards raising $150,000 to install an access lift and a main floor washroom to its theatre space.

Ken Horton, director of fundraising at Cambrian Players, is hoping to make the space better for anyone interested in theatre.

"If we have patrons who wish to join us, they have to overcome coming up the front stairs as well as stairs to get to the washrooms. And this is your community theatre. To be able to come here and be transformed by live theatre is amazing."

With fundraising efforts only just getting off the ground, the group is almost at the $10,000 mark already.

"I hope it will transform lives who otherwise cannot come out and be part of it, and maybe inspire them to be on stage themselves."

The group hopes that once enough money is raised for one of the two projects, work could be started by the fall season.
