THUNDER BAY — Canada post workers in the region and across the country are on strike as of midnight Friday.
Canada Post has said their operations will shut down during and customers should expect delays during the national strike.
Canada Post has confirmed that mail and parcels will not be processed or delivered for the duration of the strike, some post offices will be closed and new items will not be accepted.
Items already in the postal network will be delivered on a "first-in, first-out basis" but service guarantees will be impacted, according to a news release from Canada Post early Friday morning.
The striking workers include both rural-suburban mail carriers and urban operations.
According to a notice issued by the Canadian Union of Postal Workers, there are a significant number of unresolved issues at the bargaining table, including wage increases in line with inflation, improvements to benefits and paid medical days and protection against technological change, as well as numerous issues specific to each bargaining unit.
The strike will affect clients of the Thunder Bay District Social Services Board and may affect other social service providers in the region.
