THUNDER BAY — Flooding has expanded an existing road closure in Thunder Bay’s Intercity area.
The city announced on Tuesday that Carrick Street was closed between 11th Avenue and Hewitson Street due to flooding and ice build-up in culverts.
That stretch of roadway is still closed, the city said Wednesday morning.
But the same issues have now forced the closure of Hewitson west to the intersection of Russell Street, according to a media release.
That, consequently, means drivers can now no longer turn north onto Carrick from Dunlop, the city said.
Motorists are being advised to plan alternate routes and use caution in the area.
The Harbour Expressway, which intersects Carrick between 11th and Hewitson, remains open, according to the city.
“The closure is in effect until further notice as crews continue working to address the situation and ensure public safety,” the city’s release said. “City crews are actively working to clear ice blockages and improve drainage in the affected areas.”
