VANTAA, Finland – Thunder Bay’s Carter George and Team Canada open the Under 18 World Hockey Championship on Thursday against Sweden.

George, expected to be taken as high as the second or third round of the National Hockey League draft this summer, is one of three goaltenders on the Canadian squad, a group that includes Ryerson Leenders and Jack Ivankovic.

George has spent the past two seasons with the Ontario Hockey League’s Owen Sound Attack and posted a 23-21-6 record with a .907 save percentage.

The 17-year-old is a graduate of the Thunder Bay Kings program and is the second-ranked North American goaltender according to NHL Central Scouting’s final draft rankings.

Canada opens against Sweden at noon on Thursday and is also scheduled to play Czechia on Friday, Switzerland on Sunday and Kazakhstan on Tuesday.
