Firefighters responded to a call about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday following reports that flames and smoke could be seen inside the Machar Avenue home.
Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control within an hour.
The building was empty at the time and no one was injured.
Fire prevention officer Bob Vander Ploeg said they’re concentrating their investigation to the front of the house where they believe the fire started.
“The fire damage is mostly confined to the front in the living room,” he said. “There’s heat and smoke damage to the first floor. There’s smoke damage to the second floor and the basement is relatively undamaged except by water. The fire didn’t extend much past the living room.”
The cause of the fire is still unknown.
Anyone with information on this fire is asked to call Vander Ploeg at 625-2650 or Crime Stoppers at 623-8477 or toll-free at 1-800-222-8477.
