Chambers honoured

An outspoken local veteran was remembered in the House of Commons Friday. Dorothy Chambers, who passed away Oct. 30 at the age of 91, was well-known to local politicians. She was remembered by Mayor Keith Hobbs at city council Monday night.

An outspoken local veteran was remembered in the House of Commons Friday.

Dorothy Chambers, who passed away Oct. 30 at the age of 91, was well-known to local politicians.

She was remembered by Mayor Keith Hobbs at city council Monday night. On Friday, MP John Rafferty (NDP, Thunder Bay-Rainy River) rose in the House of Commons during Members' Statements to honour Chambers as well.

Born in Fort William, Chambers was a veteran of the Royal Canadian Air Force. In a statement from Rafferty, her family said she was a proud Canadian who lived life to the fullest. 

"Dorothy, from your friends and on behalf of the people of Thunder Bay – Rainy River I sincerely thank you for your service to Canada and all you have done for veteran’s and for your community," Rafferty said.

A service for Chambers will be held Saturday at St. Paul's Anglican Church at 11 a.m.
