Thunder Bay Christmas Charities continue their efforts to provide support to those in need.
The United Way still has about $987,000 to go if it hopes to reach its $2.52 million target. Meanhile, the Salvation Army has collected about $68,000 with its kettle campaign.
Salvation Army spokesperson Gail Kromm says that's $8,800 more than the charity collected last year at this point.
“We are experiencing higher demands on our services and I think people are responding to that,” Kromm said during an interview with CKPR Radio. “They are seeing the need is there and they want to make sure that everyone is taken care of.”
Christmas Cheer is at the $70,000 mark, which is also more than this time last year.
However, their goal has also increased to meet demand.
