THUNDER BAY - Excitement is building for Canada’s 150th birthday, and Thunder Bay will play no small part.

The city announced a number of summertime events, as well as the lineup for this year’s Live at the Waterfront festival on Tuesday.

The lineup is headlined by The White Buffalo, an American musician who has performed on the TV shows Sons of Anarchy, and Californication.

White Buffalo will take the stage July 12 for the first night of the Live at the Waterfront series.

The Canada Day entertainment will be highlighted by the Juno-nominated Ten Strings and a Goat Skin.

“We have a very dedicated events team, and we try to put together the best event possible,” said Ash Young, who works as the cultural development and events supervisor in Thunder Bay.

“We are very excited to be featuring the best of our local talent alongside a number of professional travelling performers.”

Young added this was the first year the festival will use provincial funding.

“Over the past year we started collecting tourism data at the events,” Young said. “This year we were actually successful in using that and applying for Celebrate Ontario funding.”

The city also announced the presenting sponsor will be Ontario Power Generation.
