THUNDER BAY — It might be wise to plug in your vehicle's block heater over the coming days.
On the heels of the city's first major snowfall of the season, Thunder Bay is about to enter a brief period of exceptionally cold weather.
The low pressure system that dumped up to 30 cm of snow is moving to the east, with a flow of cold northerly wind coming in its wake.
"Temperatures are really going to take a dip," Environment Canada meteorologist Trudy Kidd said Tuesday morning.
The normal daily high at this time of year is -5 C, and the normal daily low temperature is -15 C.
But the maximum between Wednesday and Friday will only range between -11 C and -15 C.
Overnight lows will also plummet, falling to -26 both on Wednesday and Thursday.
"We're going to get a cold front moving through. It's going to bring very crisp Arctic air that's going to stay around for awhile. Having a high pressure system to the west of us means a constant, steady flow of cold Arctic air," Kidd explained.
Temperatures are currently forecast to return to normal by Saturday.
