THUNDER BAY — Post-halloween pumpkin composting is back for another year.
The city is making composting bins available to the public at various locations across the city so that residents can dispose of their decorational gourds.
From Nov. 1 to 10, bins will be located at the Westfort Playfield (on Neebing Avenue), the Intercity Shopping Centre overflow parking lot, and the County Fair Plaza.
Items like candles, plastic bags or other trash are not accepted in the bins.
Since 1995, the city has diverted close to 400 tonnes of pumpkins from the city's landfill site.
Instead, the ghoulish gourds will be blended with leaf, yard, and wood waste in the spring for city residents to use as free compost.
