Fort William Road has been reduced to a single lane of traffic in each direction between First Avenue and Water Street.

THUNDER BAY — The location of a water main break over the weekend in Thunder Bay continues to elude work crews.

On Wednesday afternoon, the city released an update, saying that they’re continuing to work to locate and repair the leak, which is in the general area of Fort William Road and First Avenue, just north of the Intercity area.

The compromised water line is being blamed for flooding First Avenue, parts of Ontario Street and the area around Roots Community Food Centre and the Moose Hall this past weekend.

The food centre will host a polling station for Thursday’s election day. In the city update, officials said traffic flow will be altered from the current state of having a single lane of traffic in each direction on Fort William Road, between First Avenue and Water Street.

“Access will be available from the southbound lane only, and voters will be required to exit heading south. Northbound traffic will not be able to access the driveway,” the city’s release said.

As far as a timeline for repairs to be completed, the city said that’s still uncertain “and will depend on the specific requirements for the fix.”

City officials again reminded area residents that they may have discoloured water and/or decreasing water pressure. Discoloured water can be handled, the city said, by running a cold water tap as close to the water meter as possible for 10 to 15 minutes or until it runs clear.
