City defers enforcement of calendar parking

Enforcement of the by-law will commence when there's significant snow requiring snowplows to clear residential streets

THUNDER BAY — Under a city by-law, Nov. 15 is the day that calendar parking regulations can take effect in Thunder Bay.

The by-law is meant to ensure city road crews have space to clear snow off streets, and the restrictions are in place through the end of March.

But with a temperature of 10 C by mid-afternoon Wednesday, and no big dump of snow in the immediate forecast, Thunder Bay Parking Authority supervisor Jonathan Paske said the by-law won't be enforced until further notice.

There's a provision that allows for a deferral of enforcement until there's a significant snowfall requiring plows to be deployed to residential neighbourhoods.

According to Environment Canada, periods of rain or snow are possible in the city on Thursday night.

The set fine for calendar parking violations is $55.
