THUNDER BAY — The City of Thunder Bay is taking steps to accommodate homeowners worried about missing this week's deadline for paying their water bills.

Due to the strike that's brought postal service to a halt across the country, property-owners in the Current River, Red River, Grandview and Woodcrest areas of the city have not received the bill that was supposed to be mailed after water meter readings in October.

Residents of some rural ares including Rosslyn and Riverdale are also affected by the disruption.

In an announcement Tuesday, the city said bills for these homeowners will be sent out as soon as mail service is restored.

The bills will still display a due date of Dec. 13, but the city plans to extend the deadline to allow additional time to pay without penalty.

The new due date will be announced once normal postal operations resume.

Residents enrolled in pre-authorized payment plans will also have their payments adjusted to reflect the changes caused by the strike.

Homeowners who have questions may contact the Revenue Division at 807-625-2255.
