THUNDER BAY – With 15 centimetres of snow already on the ground, according to city officials, and another five to 10 centimetres expected, the plowing of city streets and sidewalks has begun.

Road crews hit the streets at 4 a.m. on Friday and began clearing main roads, including arterial, collector and transit routes.

Residential plowing, as always, will begin once the priority routes have been cleared and the snow has stopped.

Sidewalk and trail plowing began at 5 a.m., with the focus on major sidewalks and trails. Residential areas will begin once priority areas are completed.

Sanding and salting on roads began at 2 a.m. and will continue throughout the day.
