THUNDER BAY – The city has imposed a three-hour time limit at the Market Square parking lot at Prince Arthur's Landing.

The city, in a release issued on Wednesday, cited an overwhelming demand for spots as the reason behind the decision.

There had previously been no limit to the free parking lot, located across the street from the CN station and adjacent to the splash-pad.

The new time limit is effective immediately.

“This move provides better access to the waterfront for more people,” said Jonathan Paske, the city’s parking authority supervisor.

“This time limit will encourage longer-term visitors to park in other lots at the waterfront, and maintain fair access for all users.”

The change has been posted to signs at the entrance to the Market Square lot and it does not affect the designated spots for boaters.
