DRYDEN, Ont. -- The City of Dryden has turned to a familiar face to lead its fire department.
Chris Woods, who joined the Dryden Fire Service in 2015 and has served as a captain for the past two years, will take over the role on June 12.
It's a challenge he relishes.
“I am extremely thankful and privileged to have been granted the ability to be part of the Dryden Fire Service over the last seven years. During that time, I have been exposed to the continuous growth and improvements made within the service and I am thankful and honoured to have grown and developed personally with my colleagues," Wood said in a release.
"I would like to express my gratitude to the City of Dryden and Council for appointing me into the position of fire chief, Dryden Fire Service. I look forward to working with our outstanding and devoted team in maintaining the stability of our department and providing new leadership to a successful organization.”
City chief administrative officer Roger Nesbitt said they conducted a broad search for the new chief, following the resignation of Chief Kent Readman last month.
“I am excited that Chris has accepted the fire chief position for the City of Dryden. Chris’ experience as one of Dryden’s volunteer fire fighters and fire service captains along with his extensive leadership and team building skills will help to ensure his success and provide our community with tremendous value. I look forward to working with Chris and having him as part of our management team," Nesbitt said.
