City police chief named provincial association president

Thunder Bay Police Chief Bob Herman has officially taken on his new role as president of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police.

Thunder Bay Police Chief Bob Herman has officially taken on his new role as president of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police.

Herman said he plans to use his position to highlight Northern crime issues and ensure Premier Dalton McGuinty is improving police resources across Ontario. The chief was in Kingston this week for his official swearing in ceremony as the 59th president of the OACP.

Herman is the first police chief from Thunder Bay to hold the position, and he said it is a great honour to represent municipal police forces, the OPP and the RCMP in Ontario. When asked whether the new job will take up a lot of time from his regular position as Thunder Bay's Police Chief, Herman said that will not be an issue.

Meanwhile, the chair of the Shuniah Police Services Board is also moving up. Don Smith has been elected to vice-president of the Ontario Association of Police Service Boards at their recent annual meeting.
