THUNDER BAY — There will be no fireworks display when the City of Thunder Bay marks Canada Day on Friday.

In keeping with a decision announced in April, celebrations have been scaled back from previous years.

In a social media post, the city says "Let's come together as a community and walk together, learn together and grow together."

Prince Arthur's Landing will still host numerous performers, vendors, artisans and community groups to mark the July 1 holiday.

According to information posted on the city's Facebook page, community groups will be set up in the Camelot parking lot from noon to 5 p.m.

Vendors and artisans will also be there between noon and 9 p.m.

Performances began at 1:30 with a world cultural dance, and will conclude with busker Arden Bruyere at 7:45.

Other performers include Dr. Buck and the Bluesbangers, Shy-Anne Hovorka, and the Martin Blanchet Jazz Quintet.

The Fort William Rotary House Canada Day draw will take place at 6:30.

Closing remarks are scheduled for 8:45.

Fort William Historical Park is also inviting the public to kick off the summer season on Canada Day by participating in a range of family-oriented activities.

Park manager Patrick Morash says it's also an opportunity "to remember and learn about our collective history."

Event ticket prices at the fort are $10 for adults and $8 for students, seniors 60 and over, and children from six to 12 years old.

Admission is free for children five years old and younger.
