High temperatures are expected to last through Tuesday night, when a cold front will cool things off.

THUNDER BAY – The City of Thunder Bay is under a heat warning, which is expected to remain in effect through Tuesday.

According to Environment Canada, which issued the warning early Monday morning, temperatures are expected to climb to nearly 30 C on Labour Day, with a humidex value between 35 and 40.

There is some respite for those near the waterfront, as temperatures in these areas are expected to be cooler than areas away from the lake.

A passing cold front should bring an end to the high temperatures by Tuesday night.

Environment Canada warns the heat can result in deteriorating air quality and result in heat illness, signs of which include swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.

They recommend checking on older family, friends and neighbours to ensure they are cool and drinking water.

Outdoor workers should take regularly scheduled breaks in a cool place.
