The potential loss of Hockey Night in Canada and other popular CBC programs has been eliminated for Thunder Bay Television viewers.

This follows the finalization of a new programming agreement between CKPR-Television and the CBC this week. Last year, the network had indicated it was no longer interested in continuing affiliation agreements with private sector television operators, forcing several stations to begin looking for alternate sources of programming.

But ongoing discussions with the CBC ultimately led to a new deal that will allow a 57-year-long union between the two broadcasters to continue.

Dougall Media vice-president and general manager Don Caron is expressing satisfaction over the deal, saying it will give viewers continued access to quality programming, while also providing stability for the company.

The new agreement will run for a five-year term.
