The recent cold snap continues to make and break weather records in the region.
Officials with Environment Canada confirmed that Thursday morning’s low of -38.6C set a new temperature record for the city.
The previous coldest Jan. 2 was set in 1979 when it was -38.5.
Meanwhile, the cold weather is expected to continue. Environment Canada’s forecast shows nighttime lows of -30C and colder throughout much of the week.
Highs of of -21C, -19C and -18C are expected for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.
