BARRIE, Ont. – Thunder Bay’s Nathan Lepore fired his way to a second-place finish at the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association Golf Championship.

Lepore completed the 54-hole event at the Barrie Country Club with a 9-over 225 total, including a tournament-low 3-under 69 in last week’s final round.

He lost in a four-hole playoff to Humber College’s Matt Morris.

"After a rough first round of 82, I played my next 36 holes at -1 to force the playoff," said Lepore, a first-year student at Confederation College.

"I’m very proud of how I bounced back after a tough first day. I put my head down and focused one shot at a time and ground out a 69 on a very tough Barrie Country Club golf course."

Lepore’s accomplishment marks the first silver medal in school history at the event.

The golfer also took home the OCAA rookie-of-the year award and earned a spot on the conference first all-star team.

"Nathan played a superb tournament, recovering from a score of 82 the first day followed up by rounds of 74 and 69, the low round of the three-day event," said David Reid, Confederation's golf coach,” in a release issued by the school.

"After a wait of over four hours, Nathan then fought his way through three sudden death playoff holes."

Earlier this year Lepore won the Better Ball (Pro-Am) in Thunder Bay, teaming up with Jack Moro to win the event. He also finished third at the NextGen Prairie Golf Championship played at Whitewater Golf Course.

Lepore advances to the 2024 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Golf National Championships, scheduled for Oct. 15 to Oct. 18 in King, Ont.

He’ll be one of 60 athletes competing in the 54-hole tournament.
