THUNDER BAY — Comic enthusiasts were treated to some free comics on Saturday when Comix Plus Music Exchange held its annual festivities for free comic book day.
Each year, thousands of participating stores give over six million comic books to millions of fans to introduce them to the wonders of comics.
Gary Gummeson, the owner and operator of Comix Plus, said that it's a great family fun event that promotes literacy, art, storytelling and more while also raising money for a great local cause.
“You get two free comics when you come in, but you can also get additional comics for a dollar to a maximum of two, which helps support Dew Drop Inn, which is a great organization here fundraising for feeding people and it's a neighbourhood organization around here, so it's a great thing to help,” he said.
Gummeson said that it’s great to see so many people out and showing their love for comics.
“That's why we that's why we do it, because, especially for the kids, you know, they obviously enjoy it even probably more so it's a a great thing, especially with the popularity of the super hero films and that,” he said.
“So, they're really aware of all these in the comics, but the comics are a widespread assortment, so, there's something for everyone.”
Gummeson said that he would like to thank everyone who came out for supporting the event.
