THUNDER BAY – Confederation College held its 2022 convocation ceremonies on Friday at the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium to celebrate the graduates who received certificates, diplomas and advanced diplomas as well as to give graduates from 2020 and 2021 who’s ceremonies were held virtually a chance to walk across the stage.
“It’s very exciting to be in person and you can hear the excitement in the room, people are really happy to be able to cross the stage this morning and this afternoon,” said Kathleen Lynch, Confederation College president.
“It’s wonderful and all the programs are excited to be able to come and celebrate their graduates, and, as you know, we opened it up to the grads of 2020 and 2021 as well because we know everybody wants the opportunity to cross the stage.”
More than 1,400 students graduated from Confederation College in 2022. The morning ceremony featured students from the School of Aviation, Engineering Technology and Trades as well as the School of Business, Hospitality and Media Arts. The afternoon ceremony featured the School of Health Negahneewin and Community Services.
Convocation is an exciting time for the entire Confederation College Community. Seeing graduates cross the stage is always moving, but this year, after the additional challenges these students faced over the last two years, we really appreciate their perseverance and courage,” said Lynch.
“We are proud of our students and their accomplishments. As they move through life, Confederation College will always be here to support their achievements.
The Student Union of Confederation College Inc./Oshki Anishnawbeg Student Association Student Leadership Award was presented to Darla Oja who is graduating from the Native Child and Family Services program, for demonstrating exceptional leadership skills, being a positive role model, and effecting change.
Confederation College’s convocation ceremonies continue next week in Kenora (June 13), Fort Frances (June 14), Dryden (June 15) and Sioux Lookout (June 16).
