Confederation College holds first Saturday Open House

attendees got a first-hand look at the student experience

THUNDER BAY – Confederation College held its first-ever Saturday Open house this weekend to connect with prospective students and give them a chance to learn about what the college is all about.

The open house is intended to give prospective students a chance to learn about college programs, student life and how to finance their education.

Alexandra Jones, Manager of Marketing, Recruitment, and Communications said that holding the event on the weekend makes it more accessible to all types of students.

“The weekend allows students to bring their supporters, which is so important for family supporters, siblings, and mature students who may be working,” she said. “It's drop in. You can come anytime today and visit our buildings.”

The event ran from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and provided the opportunity for visitors to tour through different learning environments, from media and woodworking shops to simulation, getting a first-hand look at the student experience.

“I think such a big part of figuring out what you want to do as a student is visualizing yourself in this space and seeing if that program is the right fit for you,” said Jones.

“And today is the opportunity for students to picture themselves to see the equipment, see the kind of things they would be doing and really see if this is something they want to do and we also have all of our services here, so things like financial aid and counselling and our student success centres, students can find out about all the supports that we have available to them when they become a student here.”

Faculty and current students were on hand doing demonstrations and showing a glimpse into various programs at the college with hourly tours and opportunities for attendees to speak with program coordinators.

Anyone who may have missed the open house can still find out more about the college by visiting its website
