THUNDER BAY – Confederation College’s Film Production Program will be hosting a night of live music on April 8 as a way to fundraise for the students’ 2023 annual trip to Toronto which will be the first of such trips to occur since the start of the pandemic.

“So every year we tend to have a large party that also works as our annual fundraising event. It sort of closes our second year but opens up our first years to the experience of having your big thesis here,” said Andrew Simpson, film professor.

“And so with COVID, it’s been shut down and we haven’t had an opportunity to celebrate other than our work which, for some, is enough, but for others, they need a little something more special.”

The event will be held at Black Pirate’s Pub and will feature live performances from current Conflix students as well as recent graduates of the program.

“The neat thing about what our second years did, which is not to say completely uncommon, but it is definitely more so with our current graduating group, is they created music. So instead of going out and partying and going to movie theatres and doing all the other fun things, they stayed in school, they stayed in a safe space where they were allowed to work together,” said Simpson.

“And several students actually made a band and have recorded an album and several other students had musical backgrounds and have decided to share those as well.”

The event will be a double celebration of the ending of COVID and the reopening of the Film Program again.

The show will have many musical acts including: DJ Treezy, Dead LI & The Skull of Immortality, Maya Bragnolo, and Hopeless Ghost.

Doors open April 8 at 9 p.m. Tickets are $8 in advance or $10 at the door, the show starts at 10 p.m. and you can buy your tickets here.
