THUNDER BAY — The Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre has begun construction for its cardiovascular surgery program.
This construction will involve the creation of a new 76,000-square-foot cardiac care wing, which is expected to be completed in late 2027.
Earlier this year, the province announced $93 million to help cover the construction cost, on top of the $5.7 million it already invested in the project. The Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation has also raised more than $20 million toward the project.
To accommodate the construction, the centre will temporarily close its Bear (B1) parking lot starting Saturday, according to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre's Facebook page.
However, during the closure, the centre will prioritize its Moose (B2) and Eagle (A1) parking lots for patient parking.
The centre's staff said it kindly asks that all patients and families plan for this closure and allow extra time for parking.
It also added that it appreciates everyone's understanding and patience as this important project moves forward and will continue to provide updates as construction progresses.
Residents looking for where these parking lots are located can refer to the centre's online map.
