THUNDER BAY - The coroner has released the identity of the body found in the McIntyre River last week, confirming what family members already suspected.
A spokesperson from the coroner’s office in Toronto identified the body as 14-year-old Josiah Begg, who went missing in Thunder Bay on May 6th.
Begg’s body was found on Thursday, May 18 in the McIntyre River by an Ontario Provincial Police underwater search team.
Family members and leadership from Nishnawbe Aski Nation said last week that all signs pointed to the body being that of Begg’s.
Begg, a resident of Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug First Nation, was in Thunder Bay for a medical appointment. After going missing, he was the focus of an extensive search by community members and police.
The coroner's investigation is ongoing and the cause of death and further details from the autopsy will be released to the family and Thunder Bay Police once available.
