THUNDER BAY-- City council and staff gave outgoing Aboriginal liaison, Anna Gibbon a standing ovation last night as they thanked her for her work.

Council was also introduced to the person who will be taking over the role. Sam Achneepineskum has been named as the city's acting Aboriginal liaison.

He sat beside City Clerk John Hannam Monday night as Hannam outlined some of the achievements of the strategy. Coun. Aldo Ruberto feels people aren't getting a true picture of the work going on between the municipality and the Aboriginal community.

Council also approved $1.4 million to make long-term upgrades to the Atlantic Avenue Water Pollution Control Plant.

Short-term improvements, needed due the flooding at the plant are already underway.

A report on all of the devastation caused at the plant last May has been pushed back to later in the year.

It's expected to show between 25 and 30-million dollars worth of damages.
