THUNDER BAY -- A couple is dead, and another man is in hospital after two vehicles collided on Highway 11/17, east of Thunder Bay on Sunday afternoon.
According to officers on scene, a westbound vehicle was turning left from the highway onto Lakeshore Drive at 4:25 p.m. when it was struck by an eastbound pickup truck hauling a trailer.
One partner was declared dead in ambulance on the way to the hospital. The other succumbed to injuries, despite emergency surgery at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.
The driver of the truck is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Highway traffic has been reduced to a single lane as OPP officers assess the incident.
