THUNDER BAY – An individual associated with St. Martin Elementary School in Thunder Bay has tested positive for COVID-19.

The Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board announced the news Sunday, saying it had been notified of the case the previous evening by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit.

“At this time, there is no evidence of school related spread of the virus,” the board stated in a release.

A school cohort will remain home under the direction of public health, though the board did not specify which cohort had been affected.

On Facebook, the board stated in response to a parent inquiry that the cohort had been contacted Saturday night.

A thorough cleaning, including disinfectant fogging, will be conducted by a third party, the board said.

The health unit is conducting an investigation of the situation, and anyone identified as a close contact will be contacted by a public health nurse.
