THUNDER BAY – A recent COVID-19 case is linked to a Thunder Bay high school, Lakehead Public Schools announced Saturday.
An individual associated with Hammarskjold High School has tested positive for COVID-19, the school board said in a statement issued Saturday evening.
Work is underway to identify anyone considered a high-risk contact of that individual, the board added.
“At this time, everyone else in the school setting who is not specifically contacted by the [health unit] would be considered at low risk and does not require testing because of this situation,” it stated.
The school board did not specify whether the case involved a student, teacher, or other staff member.
“For reasons of privacy, we will minimize the sharing of personal information about any case and strongly encourage others to avoid identifying individuals,” the board explained.
Hammarskjold will remain open as usual, with further information provided to the school community “if needed” over the coming days.
The case is part of a recent spike that led the province to move the Thunder Bay District into the yellow zone of its COVID-19 Response Framework on Friday.
As of Saturday, there were 69 active cases in the district, including 11 announced that day.
