COVID-19 death toll grows by one in Thunder Bay district

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit is also reporting an increase in test positivity rate, with seven-day average of 27.7 per cent as of Monday.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit announced another person has died after contracting COVID-19, bringing the local total to 122.

THUNDER BAY — Another person has died in the Thunder Bay region after contracting COVID-19.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit on Thursday reported the 122nd case in which the virus was either the underlying cause or a contributing cause of death.

The percentage of COVID-19 tests returning a positive result has risen significantly this month.

In the Thunder Bay area, as of Monday, the seven-day average was 27.7 per cent positive among all tests performed. That figure was 21.7 per cent the previous week.

For the province, the seven-day average positive test result over the same period was 15.8 per cent, compared with 14.4 per cent last week.

The health unit's weekly update of COVID-19 data also showed there are currently 55 patients in hospital with the virus, including two in intensive care.

Last week, there were 57 patients who had tested positive, with one of these being in intensive care.
