RAINY RIVER, Ont. — The Northwestern Health Unit is concerned about increasing COVID-19 activity in the Rainy River District, especially in the Town of Rainy River.
The NWHU said Tuesday morning that several new cases have been identified in that area within the last week.
According to Riverside Health Care, there have been six new cases and one probable case in the district over the past few days, including five in Rainy River.
The sixth case is in Fort Frances.
Riverside says it is testing all residents and staff at its long-term care facilities twice a week, while LaVerendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances is using a more focused testing approach.
Riverside said additional high-touch cleaning is also being performed at all its locations.
New visitor restrictions are being imposed at all long-term care sites in the district.
The NWHU said it communicates with everyone who tests positive for COVID-19 to provide support and identify potential contacts.
It follows up with all close contacts as well.
